Car Insurance - Geographical area affect premium?

Hi

Does anyone know if where you live affects your car insurance premium?

My son is moving from an OL15 area to an M24 area. Does anyone know if this will be more expensive as it does have implications for him as he's only 23 and paying quite alot of money for his car insurance.

Any advice gratefully received, thanks!

Yes definately. I'm guessing that is a move from Oldham to Manchester but do not know the areas concerned. The difference will depend on individual insurers past experience of that postcode in terms of car theft and theft from vehicles.

    Heck yes.

Moved from a small village outside Cheltenham (cotswolds) to nottingham and it doubled my premium from £350 to £680.

    :(

Yes where you live does affect your premium. Some of the factors taken into account are the car crime in the area, the types of roads in the area and the likelihood of an accident occurung on that type of road.

Hi - it just might go DOWN although there will probably be an admin charge of typically £15/20.

Thanks, I don't think it will go down, the area he's moving to is not too clever, though I think the OL15 area is classed as high risk too.

Pity there's not a list you can check before you move somewhere!

There may not be a list specifically.... but getting quotes online could give you an idea in difference in premium
