You aren't getting a credit product as far as I can tell.
You are essentially signing a contract to say you will pay £x per month for n months. You don't pay the whole amount upfront, so whilst it's not technically credit (you are still pay-as-you-go for the service) you are committed to pay that for the length of the tenancy. The credit checks will give a better view on whether you are able to pay £x every month.
If someone is looking after one of my assets i would want as much assurance as possible, be it credit refrences, credit report, refrences, proof of salary etc etc. After all you are trusting them with something worth tens/hundreds of thousands, they most likely dont know what its like to own and pay for this assets hence why they are renting from you(although this is not always the case)
