Evening folks!
I'm after a new car and hoping someone more knowledgable than me can help!
Bit of background;
Currently drive a 207 1.4
Share it with the other half, has new job which is going to require more driving..probably twice a weekish at least 100 mile round trip, potentially 200.
Want something cheap on tax
Want something brilliant on fuel economy
5 doors
Currently, the other half likes the Fiesta, I do too. Also fans of the Civic (not the newest 1), I also like the i30, i20 at a push but I'm not mad on that!
The other half isn't keen on a car loads bigger than ours, which should rule out the civic, but is keen on how it looks!
I reckon I have between 6-8k to spend on a car.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Something that will ost a few £ less to tax and do a few extra mpg may cost ££££ more.
Do the figures work for you though?
Do you want to spend £30,000 on the latest eco machine that does 100mpg, When you can buy something that does 30mpg but only costs £2000?
Any modern diesel will do 60+ mpg on a run. I have a Mondeo 2L diesel that does over 60mpg at 70mph.
Beware cars with an engine thats too small though. 1.4 and 1.6 diesel. The 1.4 maybe better stuck in traffic and lots of short journeys, But any decent runs and the 1.6 may win. More torque when its on the move.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I have a 2008 Honda Civic 1.8. The engine in this car is amazing. You are getting 2.0l power with 1.4 economy. I'm averaging 43mpg. It beats out a lot of the new smaller capacity turbo engines on power vs economy. 100% reliable.
I have owned a string of Hondas and can highly recommend them. They recently came top of a warranty direct survey.
The 2.2 diesel is very quick, and will average 50mpg+:

This is basically the same car as I have (with the semi-auto):
