Telling Family/Friends about wins

Hi i was just wondering, do you share the news of your wins as soon as you find out or do you wait until it arrives?
I won a bracelet at the beginning of December but still haven't received it, i've exchanged emails with the company 4 times, 1st i was told it was on its way, then it "must have gone missing", then "we'll get another sent out" and then last week they said "it'll be sent out this week" but it still hasn't arrived.
All of my Family/Friends are constantly asking me if i've received it & it's kind of annoying !! I'm thinking of in the future not telling anybody until i actually have my prize in my hands!

I told me mum when my years supply of tea turned up... she didn't believe me until I sent her pictures (and some boxes!) - that was way back in march last year! She now just assumes that if a package turns up - Ive won something, I don't tell her as I love seeing her excited when something comes
(Now I live at home anyway - when I was at uni i'd always be ringing to say - oh btw, delivery on such a date!)She loves it... But has no patience like me to sit and do them! xx
December Wins: £300 worth of board games, £500 Tesco Vouchers Best Win in 2023: £500 Tesco Vouchers0 -
One time I mentioned to my OH that I had won something, and his response was "Is it anything good this time?"
I guess he wasn't impressed with all my lovely Waterstones book wins & free make-up samples :rotfl:
As for other family members etc. I wait until I have the prize in hand & either give them it, show them it or show them a picture (which I'm sure is a thrilling experience for them...)
I hope you get your bracelet in soon!! :j0 -
I was a bit premature in telling people in the big Boots Barcelona fiasco so that has taught me a lesson... now I still tell my OH as soon as but leave telling everyone else until it has been confirmed! Still leaves me in the boat of people asking if I've received it yet I suppose! I have been lucky enough to win a real holiday since the Barcelona one and on telling my dad he looked all worried and asked if this one was "all above board"- he gets more stressed out about these things than me!!0

Only my family know I comp, all my friends think my brilliant new phones (3 so far), lovely shampoo and fabulous make up is because I have far more money than sense :rotfl:
My lil sister is told everything as it happens, because I need to tell someone otherwise I would explode! You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
Unfortunately I dont tell my family about my wins anymore. I just keep it between myself and my friends at a competition club I attend.
I was mocked a bit for wasting my time, and then it flipped and they expected me to win / give things to them.
It was quite upsetting. I won a netbook in 2011, which was awesome for me. There was no congratulations from my family, just a "wheres mine?"Wishing you all good luck!

Same, i don't really tell my friends or family about my wins unless they benefit directly from it.
Unfortunately not everyone can be happy for you or wishes you well.0 -
I completely agree. I don't tell anyone any more, only my husband and myself know when I win. We enjoy my winnings very much as they enable us to have little treats which we otherwise would not. I found our families started to get very bitter about things even though I wasn't boasting. Apparently we don't live in the real world and real, normal people have to pay for things
So, we just send postcards when we go somewhere cool
I think it's a bit unfair because all us serious compers know just HOW much time and hard work goes into our comping. I make sacrifices for it, time-wise and am sure a lot of my fellows on here do, too.
I love comping, I've been ever so lucky and I am ever so grateful. My best win was an all inc. holiday to Canada which I would never have been able to afford in a MILLION years.
Good luck allMAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR0 -
I won't be telling anyone about my wins in future due to their greed and expecting things from me as if I haven't worked hard with my entries to win. I spend HOURS a day so I don't think of it as getting something for nothing like some of my family seem to think. The last straw was when my brother, who is ALWAYS trying to get things for free from me, didn't thank me for a pair of £80 boots I'd won. I gave them to my mum to pass on to him for me, no text, no call, no Facebook message or anything to say a quick "Thanks" - to be honest I wish I'd flogged them for £40 and bought something for my son instead.A closed mouth gathers no feet.0

I'm new to this comping thing
Some of these replies are sad. It's a shame that family and friends have been dismissive or mean about your comping/winning.
I shall be taking your stories on board and keeping any wins (fingers crossed on this, I have managed to get a Frankie and Bennys breakfast in my first day :j) to myself and partner.
I wish you all many more wins0 -
I always tell my family - and they mostly are happy for me. It's only really my jealous cousin who I don't tell because whenever I have won tickets for something I have been unable to attend, she expects them for nothing and with no thanks either.
My partners nan always asks what I've won this week and her husband joked the other day that she should have a go :rotfl:
I've tried to get my mum and sisters into comping, they got bored really quickly.
My children are the best - my eldest told me if I ever even thought about giving it up she'd lock me in my room with only my laptop :rotfl:
They love it when we winThanks to all posters :A0
