I know that giff gaff have two different ranges, one called gigabag that allow tethering (because data is capped) and the other that offer unlimited data (but you'll never really use that much on an iphone because the device itself limits data downloads to 20MB or something).
Anyyway. I wanted to know if giffgaff enable tethering directly into the iOS settings or whether you have to jailbreak to access it.
I'm on ios6 right now which doesn't have untyethered jailbreak just yet. So I can't install cydia & miwi.
Any help would be appreciated.

You have to jailbreak0
-
oh...
then what is the point in offering a "tethering tariff". If they're not going to enable tethering on the device.
might as well stick to o2 then as they enable tethering on the handset itself.0 -
Gigabags are for tablets and dongles not phones. No calls or texts included - just data.
It's not giffgaff that won't enable tethering on the iPhone. It's Apple. They don't regard giffgaff as an authorised carrier.
You can tether on other makers' handsets with the £10 goodybag (up to 1GB per month).0 -
yeah. stupid iphone forced me to upgrade to ios6 after a crash and now I can't jailbreak and tether it.
Considering doing an untethered jailbreak.0 -
my other option is to get on an o2 pay monthly contract which allows tethering.0
-
ok not going to bother with tethering or getting on a pay monthly contract.
Just found a wicked deal for USB wifi dongles for £10.32 with 1GB data that lasts for 3 months. http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/o2mobilebroadband/tab/Pay_and_Go
it's a really good offer. Most networds will charge £10.32 just for the data (sometimes more).
I'm goin to use that while the jailbreakers wait out and release the jailbreak. From what I hear the untethered break is out but they're waiting for the ios6.1 to release so as not to destroy this exploit.0 -

I don't believe it's anything to do with GiffGaff if the device offers tethering, they just provide the network access.
I use GiffGaff on my Galaxy Nexus and can tether no problem0 -

with the iphone it sort of is a device this.
I have a o2 pay and go deal, they do not allow tethering on the pay and go deals. You have to sign up to a pay monthly contrtact and then the tethering option is available to you. The configurations are sent remotely to the device by the network.
Obviously if your iphone is jailbroken - tethering is a non-issue.
I think there may be a soft jailbreak possible to enable tethering in the iOS by modifying the settings. But there's little demand for this I guess so nobody has explored it. Most jailbreakers are probbaly more interested in developing the full jailbreak then these little settings hack.0 -
gott he dongle, you get double data if you opt into the data monitoring system. So 2GB data which runs for 3 months for just £10.32 is really worth it.
Activation is long (november 2013) so Ive ordered another dongle.
(normal topup credits after the initial data only last for 1 month). So just buy dongles.0 -
Just as an FYI explore the option to unlock the wifi device, as you can get far better deals on data than your current one by buying sims only. Over 3, but have seen them for other providers too. Ebay and Amazon are best place to locate data sims.
Have I not seen mentioned GiffGaff being used in similar devices before? (dunno.)0
