listening to music around the house

Options
I've got a separates system set up in my sitting room, I'd like to be able to get the noise fully around my house!
Back in the day the old fella had a system set up which was just a switch for the speaker wires run to different bits of the house - unfortunately I can't run wires around, couple of massive stone walls and lath and plaster...
Is there anything similar to this that can be done wirelessly? Or have things not moved on since the 80's!?

Back in the 80s people were more willing to do a really simple job like run speaker cables round the house.

Speaker cables carry a large amount of power, this cannot be done by wireless.
Yes you may be able to get a wireless signal from the Hi-Fi to another room but that signal will now have noise introduced by the wireless encoding/transmitting/decoding.
The signal must be amplified to feed speakers and will amplify the noise and add more noise at the same time.

So you can either buy expensive wireless kit or simply run speaker cables round the house. 20m for £10.

There are quite a few decent wireless room speakers. One the best i have seen are by Sonos.

But the fact that you mention massive stone walls is going to to be the problem. Stone and radio signals just don't work well together.

Do you have wifi and laptop or anything else wifi, if so what are those signals like around the home?

    I got one of these

Really simple, uses bluetooth and plays anything on my phone ..including either youtube or the tuneinradio app to play any other stuff

I got it for £70 from Comet as it was closing down ..but I think it is well worth £70 ..it even is a phone speaker and mic and charges via usb ..holds a good 3 days full playing time per charge.

if you want to come and visit me Dave_C and tell me that running speaker cables is "a really simple job" after you've seen the place...

with my wifi I have two routers joined together with homeplugs as I couldn't get a single one to cover the whole house, one of them is right where the main stereo is so I might turn the other one off and see what the coverage is like, although having looked at the price of sonos stuff I might just buy some bigger speakers and annoy the neighbours!

There is a device called roomplayer which has powerline tech built into it, so that may mean you can stream vis the main cabling.

    Lot more expensive at £500.

If you're using Homeplugs, you can get a version that extends your ethernet wirelessly into other rooms, for example -
