New business, disabled person and Grants available ?

Options
First time poster so please be gentle :)

After working for many years in the healthcare sector at assistant management level, I find myself seriously unmotivated and looking for a new challenge. I have registered and applied for many 'jobs' with various agencies, only to find these jobs simply do not exist !

I feel I have the skills, experience, knowledge and qualfications to set up on my own. I have copious amounts of passion, enthusiasm and determination to make my new venture succeed but what I don't have, is the knowledge to obtain start-up grants, financing etc and whether there is anything available to those that are registered disabled (me!).

Whilst I understand there is lots for me to learn, I am wondering whether anyone could point me in the right direction of the agencies that can provide me with the right information ?

Many thanks

There's very little in the form of grants for startups at the moment, and even established businesses are struggling to get the funding that they need.

If you're under 25, it may be best to check out the Princes Trust, as they can offer low-rate loans and some grants for startup businesses.

You are unlikely to get funding from a bank without a solid business plan and 50% funds upfront.

Good luck with your business. I do not have much to add apart from research EVERYTHING about your business idea. I found this site really helpful. There is a lot of information on Business Link. I do not know if the disabled part of the job centre (sorry dont know the proper name) may have any useful information. I also went on the free courses run by the tax man (sorry due to illness I cant remember the name) - it was all about self employment and I found it very helpful at the time. Take care. Keep posting x

Ask at the job centre to see a disability advisor, who may be able to point you in the right direction. Local to us we have a group, which although they don't provide funding, can advise how to access funding and also in many other ways, such as courses, internet access, free flyers etc etc.

    Wishing you all success
