My current employer found my CV on a job website

So they only emailed you? Respond with the truth, that that's how the recruitment process is done nowadays and that unless you chose a work computer to upload the CV then whatever you put online is up to you if using your own equipment.0

Now, I have an email from my current employer asking why they found my CV on sites.
You have done nothing wrong - be confident about that. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
They don't own you.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

Not knowing job sites, but how would the employer know its yours? surely your name wasnt on there?0

If your employer gets into trouble they won't think twice before making staff redundant. You have every right to keep tabs on the job market.
Why not just email back and tell them that they found your cv on a website because you uploaded it. (a "DUH!" at the end is optional)I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying0 -
Hi all,
I uploaded my CV onto 1 or 2 jobsites. I was having a bad week and got a bit annoyed so stuck it on. I got a few calls from recruiters but it came to nothing.
I am not actively looking but I was looking to see what was out there.
Now, I have an email from my current employer asking why they found my CV on sites.
Should I be honest? I don't want my employer to think any less of me or hold it against me - does anyone know what employers think in this situation?
Thanks in advance
Obviously they know it's you as you have your name on your profile and can see all your CV in full, yes?
Why are they emailing you to ask such a stupid question?
Do they really think that if you are in work you will NEVER look for another job.
What are they doing looking for CV's?
I would say I was JUST looking. No law against that at all but depends why they want to know. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Don't do this, it is not worth the risk of being found out and destroying the trust between you and your employer. Just be honest.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Just say in the current climate you consider it prudent to keep your options open.
Then say, it's something you've thought about for awhile in the climate, and one bad week made you get a bit proactive and have a look, then just say, you haven't been for interviews etc, you just wanted to reassure your self if worst comes to worst (i.e redundancy) something suitable is available.
Then just let them sit there and reassure you the company finances are okay.0 -
Thank you for all the advice...
I sent an email last night saying that I was just looking, and that I haven't actually applied for anything. You are right to be honest.
They wanted to make sure I was happy and that there were not any issues. Well that is what they are saying anyway!0 -
