need advice

Hi everyone apologizes if in wrong thread
we have recently found out that my DH's grandma is coming back to the uk after living in usa for 19yrs she is a uk citizen and has a uk pension the thing is we live in a 2 bed housing authority house and she has no money other than pension so we cant afford to rent, so i went over to housing authority explained situation to be told I'M OVERCROWDING MYSELF and that we wouldn't be eligible for a 3 bed house so now i just dont know what to do.
We have a monthly outgoing debt management plan and all money is set aside for the various bills i just dont see how we can rent privately and manage to pay all the bills, Grandma is 84yrs and does need help and through one way or another things went pear shape in usa with her now deceased husband so she is coming her on the 27th may any help ideas would be great. im soooooo worried

Presumably you have children? I can't see that you'd be overcrowded if that wasn't the case.

The other thing you need to check is whether you'd be in breach of your tenancy agreement by having grandma move in with you long-term.

I agree that seeing if grandma can apply for housing in her own right would be the next thing to do. She has a 'local connection' with your area, and if there is sheltered accommodation near you that might be a good solution.

I know it sounds harsh to say that you wouldn't be entitled to a larger house because you're overcrowding yourself, but it has to be that way or everyone wanting a larger house would move a relative for as long as it took ...
