Pc keeps restarting

Options
Hi
I'm hoping someone can guide me here. My PC seems to work fine but when I shut down it turns off....everything goes off seems normal, but then about 2 mins later it restarts. Its windows xp...have no idea what to do and am not very computer savvy but its been on permanently for the past 3 days due to this , I go to bed thinking its gone off only to come down it the morning to find it on again. I've done a full system scan (AVG) doesn't show any problems. Any ideas....Help!

Probably a setting somewhere (Energy Saving/scheduling?) that needs changed, someone who knows Windows better can probably tell you. However, in the meantime can you not just unplug it once you've shut it down?

Unplug it anyway for safety for some ideas follow the url http://www.5starsupport.com/xp-faq/1-41.htm
  • Check your BIOS for any 'wake on LAN' type options and switch them off. It's possible that another device on your network (or even externally if you're not well protected) can be waking your PC up from it's 'off' state.

Also, are you shutting down properly as opposed to hibernating / sleeping the computer?

I had this with my computer, it wasn't wake on LAN but Wake on Call, so each time the phone rang it switched on.

Again check this in the BIOS.
