Apologies if this has been posted before.
If you are over 60 and living in a london borough but don't yet qualify for your freedom pass, you can get a 60+ travel card fromm tfl which allows free travel on london buses and tubes. No restrictions as to time you can use it. I just got mine and am saving over £1200 on my annual season ticket. Check out the tfl site and see if you qualify... sorry it won't let me post a link, but just click the tickets tab, and then discounts for adults.
Edited to say, There is a payment of £10 initially, but it is a one off payment. My card is valid till my official retirement date...meaning when my state pension kicks in.

It is mentioned within a post in the sticky Great 'What discounts can I get now I'm over 60?' Hunt thread but it's worth highlighting and it includes a link.If you live in Greater London, you can get an Over 60's Oyster card. (It works in the same way as the Freedom Pass, which you can only get from female State Pension age, except that it can't be used on buses outside Greater London).
Details here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/25830.aspx0 -
Ditto another endorsement:Hello, not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes...
Only for people who live in a London borough, are aged 60or over and do not qualify for a freedom pass....
I found this on The TFL website for my husband who recently turned 60. He has to get two buses each way to work at a cost of £4.40 per day/ £22 per week/ £1144 per year.
TFL have a 60+ Oyster card that costs £10 for a year and then all travel on any TFL mode of transport is free. This will save my husband a minimum of £1134 per year and more as he can use it at any time.
It's not very well publicised so I hope this link works... www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/25830.aspx or look for 60+ London.0
