my photos used as marketing

not sure of correct board for this, but i had some pictures taken of my son and obviously had to pay for the pics i wanted, i have now just seen some of the pics being used on the photographers facebook page - i wasnt asked this and dont recall agreeing or signing anything, so is this allowed? surely if the photographer owned the "rights" to these pictures surely i own the rights to my sons "image" being used? plus i could have settings on facebook to prevent peados from looking at him, but the use of the him/the pics for advertising allows anyone to view ...?
i could ask for them to be removed, but would rather have free photos or commission. :)

    So you don't want perverts looking at them unless you get paid some money??

    Normally the photographers own the copyright of the image unless you pay for it. I'm sure if it upsets you, they will remove the photos from the page.

    everyone wants money, and to be honest it was a lighthearted attempt at humour, (words fail me). I do believe its impossible to be humorous on boards as you just cant express the expression.
    i just wanted to know if a company can take photos of a child especially and then use them without consent to advertise their business.
    if i get paid for the pics then i dont care what they are used for as long as i am not made aware.

    I thought it was standard practice for professional photographers to get a model release form signed if they intended making any commercial use of any photographs.

    Well that's what it says here any way;

    If picture of my kids were to be used for promotional purposes I certainly would like to know why and where they are being used.

    There is normally a part in the contract which will allow a photographer to use any photographs for personal promotion/portfolio, its kind of the industy norm.

    Have you emailed them and asked them to remove the image/images? Most photographers I know will be more than happy to do this if you do object or not want this.

    That's why the emoticons are there (although I agree that there are times when I've thought what I posted was clearly in humour only to have people take it seriously - so if there's any doubt, add a smiley :j)
