powering up laptop battery from mains

when i connect my power adaptor to laptop to charge battery it shows its charging then all of a sudden the power charger seems to cut off and i am just running on battery without the mains it says when plugged in battery charging:mad:

    Wouldn't happen to be a dell would it. Replaced the charger with a generic charger as well.
