Is there an easy way to find out the location of an exchange by the first few digits of a telephone number?
Previously tehse were listed in the phone book also you were able to call 192 directory enquiry and find out the location of a number by quoting the first few digits...
I think streetmap.co.uk has a similar facility but it just goes by the area code (not specific enough i.e. by exchange)
This could be useful in finding more about those unidentified "missed calls"!

I usually put the STD code into https://www.google.co.uk together with the word TELEPHONE and click the "Pages from the UK" radio button. Always works for me.

I use a rather old copy of the BT Phone Book Companion, which has reverse code look-up. Not sure if it is still available.
The Magenta product mentioned by Andy88, is very good and is even available as an ActiveX control for inclusion in your products.0 -
