The surge protection on mains extensions is basically just a spark gap and that shouldn't interfere with homeplugs. It won't offer much protection either but that's an old MSE chestnut which I'd rather not re-awake so please forget what I just typedI have homeplugs on extensions that have surge protection and they work perfectly

what download speeds are you getting on desktop and wireless, what is the sync rate on the router
