Minimum service charge on samsung laptop

I recently bought a samsung laptop and it now won't boot. Samsung have arranged for it to be collected under warranty. Samuel King - their 3rd party service centre -say there is liquid damage and quoted exhorbitant amounts for repair which I have refused as it would be cheaper to buy new.

They will not return my laptop unless I pay their minimum service charge of £85 (exc vat I think). As I didn't accept their service and don't believe the liquid damage either, I don't believe I am liable for this.

Oddly, there are many liquid damage issues reported on the Internet with this company. Samsung are not helping at all.

Where do I stand?

    Pay the fee, get your laptop back, then as you don't agree with their findings get your own independent report done and if that proves an inherent fault rather than misuse you can claim a remedy under the SOGA and claim the costs of both your report and the original fee.

    I wouldn't be surprised if it was a rogue repair firm. The company I work for used to do the servicing on some of their commercial equipment and Samsung would only pay £39 (plus parts) for an onsite repair, however if it wasn't covered by warranty we could charge what we want.

    I would still report it to Samsung.
