Saving by Stopping Smoking after 33 years

Options
I am new to this but decided to start a post about probably the best decision I have made in a very long time. I smoked around 15 cigerettes a day and more at the weekend - cost around £50.00 per week, = £200 a month and yes £2400 per year. I have tried so many times but failed after only a few days so time to sort myself out once and for all. I set up a bank account which sits under my current account online and so far I have transferred the £50.00 per week from one line into the one below - so far £150.00!!! Now that must be one of the best savings devices going :)

In the past I have tried the patches, tried the e-cig and even had the tablets via the GP, in the end tried the lozenges from Sainsburys (their own) for £6.00 or so which I still have 1 weeks left - best £6.00 I have ever spent and in return the best savings device ever.

Well done allie. I smoke 4 roll ups a day and to be honest I could do with giving up. Will have a look at the Sainsburys lozenges...thanks.

  • Nice! I used to smoke cigarette too and man did they hurt my wallet.
  • Well week 3, 2 weekends gone by now and still on the lozenges. Moved the money saved every week now and have £150.00 sat in the special account for not smoking. So can now say Iam a nonsmoker and richer for being so....

Well done Allie, keep thinking about the money, you will need the motivation in the weeks to come.

Keep your mind and your hands busy.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks McKneeff!

Introduced my friend to the lozenges and she started yesterday and is doing will so far today. She is going to set up a new bank account with the Halifax (you get £100.00 for setting up) and she will save her non smoking money in there!

We will look at booking a holiday quite soon!!!!
  • Such a great idea to set up a savings account - I may suggest this to my other half, I have given up counting the amount of times he has 'given up' haha.

    Great advice :) Thanks.

Just wanted to say 'Well done' and 'Good Luck'! Keep it up, it'll be well worth it! :)
  • Well done, keep up the good work.

Just worked out roughly, at £5 a pack (just checked, £5.05 when I stopped) we've saved £43680:eek: (I'm 7 years in Feb, wifes 10 years, I was 40 a day she was 20).

Dont know what I've done with the money though.

We also stopped using losenges, it took me a year and a half to get off the losenges.
