                    Hi,
Wondering if anyone can advise. My husband's grandad has just passed away and going through paperwork shows he's been paying for car insurance.
He hasn't driven or owned a car for years
Obviously this will be cancelled but just wondered if there was any industry standard rule around claiming back X months' worth of premiums?
Long shot I know, just asking.
Thanks.

You can go through legal arguments - no actual contract as no insurable risk but to be honest the stress would not be worth the money.
There are plenty of cases of corporates writing to the deceased (with that word appearing as the addressee) and refusing to deal with next of kin unless they get the permission of the policyholder even after receibing copies of the death certificate etc.....
I personally would save the upset and anger these companies cause when dealing with issues like this.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

OK thanks. Not really bothered but thought if there was a default minimum that they would refund in this type of case, it would be worth drafting a letter for his nanna.
Sounds like it's not worth bothering though - thanks.0

If you could prove there was no risk to the Insurers by providing documents eg a copy of the transfer of ownership they might refund the current period.0

I would certainly try a letter to the insurance company - you might well get nothing, but for the cost of a stamp why not?
How come though he was still paying for the insurance? A direct debit that was never cancelled? Surely at some point they would have to get permission to continue charging?0
