Basfordlad where did you get £24 from? If you can only get 3% elsewhere then the regular saver is worth three times that for a basic rate tax payer. I've had one 7% regular saver ISA and three 8% regular savers from First Direct plus the free £250 overdraft. That's worth a lot more than £100. Of course that's the past and there's no guarantee that keeping the account will be as profitable in the future.

The 8% Reg Saver pays approx £124 (net after BR tax) interest over a year. I.e. £24 more in the first year than trying to get the £100 leaving bonus.

As "Wheres My Cashback" already said, this is short-term thinking because it's not just £24 you lose, but also access to the Reg Saver in subsequent years (assuming they will continue with a good Reg Saver).

To those who can't read too well - I suggest you get someone to read my post back to you. You got the times ALL wrong. It states when the application was made. Read.

The only problem here is his ATTITUDE

To be fair to Nine_Lives, I did overlook that the original application was apparently on Sunday.

Never come across anyone else who is as unlucky as Nine_Lives (and his previous incarnation) with his banking affairs.

You musn't be able to read either then. I wasn't the one who came in with attitude. I never do. I'm happy to discuss. If people want to take that stance with me that's fine, but don't expect me to not do the same back.

Instead of saying "what's the problem" which if we're face-to-face could be taken inquisitively, "whats the problem this time" is generally meant in an "oh for gods sake i've had enough" manner - it's unnecessary attitude.

It also wasn't my fault that people got it all so wrong. I put there in black and white that the application was done on Sunday. I haven't edited my post - it's there for all to see. SUNDAY.

48 hours from this would've been 5pm (Tuesday). Again it's all there in black & white. If people have read it wrong then it's hardly my fault is it!? So why the attitude in my direction? Uncalled for. Continuing on about timezones & planets nonsense, taking the high & mighty stance with the sarcasm - again, it could've all been avoided had my post been read properly. Not once did i come into this & started taking attitude with other members for no good reason.

Yet it's MY attitude that's the problem is it? Go figure!

    Why so?

There's no apparently about it. It was on a Sunday - i said so. Why do you appear to have a problem with this?

And how is this relevant to anything? I have to have the same level of luck as others do i?

You're welcome. That's a bit of a gamble in my opinion.

You'll need to have a very good (customer service related) reason to claim the £100 leaving present. And you'll need to have given them chance to resolve it satisfactorily (possibly in the eyes of the FOS).

And I'd also expect them to dig their heels in if you've been paying in the £1,500 in dribs and drabs each month via FP, rather then your salary via BACS Direct Credit. Of course if you're weekly paid via BACS Direct Credit (is that what you meant?) this won't matter.

If you can afford to make use of the Regular Saver you might be better going for that to maximise your return from FD...a 'bird in the hand' and all that!

Finally, do FD still do their 'refer a friend' scheme? Because that's worth another (up to, depending on whether you refer via this site and split the money) £150 to you.

What do you mean "give them a chance to resolve it satisfactorily"? I will be closing mine after 6 payments of 1500 or more a month to make easy £225, which is what their guarantee states, no ifs no buts.

I will think this over, esp if the rate stays near or the same after 12 months.....

Good luck with your plan. As YB said, you'll need to have a very good (customer service related) reason to claim the £100 leaving present. And you'll need to have given them fair chance to resolve it satisfactorily (possibly in the eyes of the FOS).

Whilst you might succeed in getting £225 out of FD within a year (or longer if you have to go to the FOS), other people will make a guaranteed £249 from them in the same timeframe, and probably something like £600+ over a 5 year period.

There's absolutely no guarantee you will get the £100 leaving pressie. FD aren't just paying you for no good reason.

    How do I calculate this?

    • £125 signup bonus
    • £124 (net after basic rate tax) from 8% Reg Saver in year 1
    • another £100 or so at least from Reg Saver in year 2
    • another £100 or so at least from Reg Saver in year 3
    • another £100 or so at least from Reg Saver in year 4
    • another £100 or so at least from Reg Saver in year 5
There's obviously no guarantee that the Regular Saver will continue to be a good deal, but I reckon it's much more likely that it will than that you can bag the £100 leaving bonus.
