Hello,
I hope someone may be kind enough to help with this problem.
To cut a long story short my wife will be working from home in an outbuilding that will be converted into a beauty salon, the client will never have to enter our house.
Now the hard part, we have been trying to get home and contents insurance (for the house) while declaring that we will use the property for business use (even though it's an outbuilding), most insurance companies will insure you if you are only doing clerical work etc but not for visitors!
We thought we had finally found a company willing to insure us but because we will have more than 10 visitors a week they cannot insure us.
Does anyone know of any insurance company that would insure us for this as we seem to be going round and round in circles?
We have tried comparison sites and get results that companies will insure us until you read the small print and find out you are not insured for visitors even though we stated this in the questions we have been asked!
I look forward to your replies, thanks.

this is the kind of situation where you'd find using a broker worthwhile. As well as your own house insurance, your wife also needs public liability insurance in case anyone trips on their way into the salon.Signature removed for peace of mind0

If you find the aggregator sites are not initially giving you the insurance you really need (despite correctly disclosing your situation), then click on the insurer of your choice (which you probably have dome anyway to get the full details) and change the proposal form accordingly.
You may indeed find the first few insurers will automatically refuse you, but keep trying and I am sure you will find one that gives a revised premium for your specific circumstances0 -

Best finding a business insurer that will also do house/content insurance rather than the other way round.0 -
Thank you for the replies, we finally found two insurers who were willing to insure us, after lengthy phone calls to and from one of the insurers and a promise to get a quote to us the same day, which didn't happen we decided to go with Homeprotect who after a quick call to them, they confirmed a few questions that we had there and then, simple and easy!
When we finally received a quote from the other company, the quote was nearly double what Homeprotect had given us for a like for like policy.
Once again thanks for the help and replies.0 -
Make sure it includes Product Liability and especially "Treatment Risks"0

Thanks dacouch, we already have this on another policy, we just wanted to 'do the right thing' and declare that we are running a business from home on our building and contents insurance which was easier said than done!0 -

In that case you need to check that your current Liability cover does not exclude people with their own premises as a lot of the standalone covers are designed for mobile beauticians and those renting chairs in saloons.
I recommend you check it out just to make sure.0 -

Hi,
My wife already has her own salon but has decided to work from home to save money on the rent, which has increased this year to unacceptable levels.0 -
Is your wife in any local business association? There is usually a local forum for small businesses, Chamber of Trade or other similar organisation. I haven't had anything to do with any of them for some years, but this is exactly the kind of problem they used to help with.0
