This weekend I used a simple but amazing device that keeps my two children upright in the group 2 seat. When they fall asleep, they fall forward and end up with their head in their laps, it looks dangerous and it's uncomfortable for them. This holds them in the correct safe position even when fast asleep. We searched everywhere and tried different seats to try and stop the problem. This works and only costs less than £20! If you have had the same problem it's certainly worth a look, the company is www.beltupp.com

The Evolva 123 would be the perfect choice for the 3 year old.

Much safer than using a 5 point harness (has an impact shield so less likely to cause head and neck injury

Booster cushions on their own will be unavailable to buy before much longer, and will be illegal in a few years, a friend works as a road safety officer for the council, and they've been told about it. Some of the high-back boosters (we have a Britax) extend a lot further than others (i.e. Graco), which meand they can be used right up until your kids become big enough to not need a seat at all. My daughter is 10, 138cm (so big enough to not really need a seat, but prefers to use her seat as she struggles with the seat belt position on her neck) and is still using a high back booster.
Booster cushions aren't as safe as the high back boosters, as they give no side impact protection, and the kids can slip sidewards in the event of an accident.
    Good advice

When my car was wrote off last year I was faced with looking for a new seat for my 2.5 year old son. Even thought he weighed enough for just a high back booster he wasn't tall enough as on the lowest setting the seat belt was still in a really bad position on his neck! I opted for the britax evolva 123 so I could keep him in a harness x he's 3.5 now and were going to take the harness off soon but it's been a brill seat and he finds it really comfy. It can't be reclined once in though so on long journeys I fit it into the car already reclined as he is guaranteed to fall sleep. It's quite a big seat too and quite roomy for DS. Before this seat we had the britax first class and he had started to look a bit squashed in that one x
