Sky HD box making noise

Options
For tha past week I've been hearing a strange noise when I'm watching a recorded programme. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a heart beat in the background all the time. It goes faster if I fast forward the programme. Its not loud enough to distrupt the programme but it is annoying. Any ideas what it is?

Harddisk getting noisy. How old is the box?

sounds like the hard drive going faulty.
as penrhyn asked how old is it. HDD's can start failing at any age.
I had a WD drive fail on me after 8months, replaced and replacement failed after 6months, replacement still running fine, mind you i did wait 6months before using it.

Mmmnn, turn up the volume on the TV:D!
Not a lot you can do about it AFAIK, the older boxes had spongy rubber feet to absorb some vibration, Your box is not pushed up against anything.

Not really. Around £40 and plenty of guides on the internet.

    If its the HDD.
    you can easily replace yourself.
sure there will be some guides online, litterally unscrew, unplug 2 cables and replace with new hdd.

not exactly that easy. I believe the HDD is formatted to a format different from NTFS and FAT32 so you need to first find out that information.
I could be wrong, but instructions on how 2 would tell you, when you use google make sure to put down the model you have.

Amazed to see a 4 year old Sky HD box that is still working at all! Usually the power supply goes first.

Plenty of guides on the internet on how to replace (and upgrade) the hard drive, just be aware that if you do this you will lose access to all the programs on your current drive.

probably be cheaper to buy a new HDD recorder, less fuss,
a hard drive 1tb/1000gb sata connection around £60 these days.
    500gb around £42
    2tb £80
brand new hdd recorder from argos around £140+ 320gb.
