Feeling sad when giving things up

Hi, I know we're all for clearing clutter and stopping hoarding but I can't help feeling so sad about things I have sold on ebay
We're in a tight financial situation at the mo, as I'm sure a lot of us are, and I've sold lots of things to scrape together some extra cash. My gold went last week, which I did feel a little sad about but I've just listed some of my treasured collectables and although they were just sitting in a display cabinet and were of no use, I can't help but feel depressed over losing something I used to get great pleasure from collecting.
I do get quite anxious about getting rid of things anyway and lately I had improved but now I'm feeling really down
I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place because I'm loathed to give up my things but need the cash so desperately I feel forced to.
Sorry to put a downer on everything

I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

Sorry to hear about your difficult situation
It's all down to feeling in control and having choices, and at the moment things are being driven by your finances and you don't feel like you have any choice in the matter, so of course you will be feeling pangs
Hopefully, by averting further money worries you will start to see the benefit and begin to regain control
I hope things pick up for you soon
Best wishesYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Doing what you need to do will get you through, then hopefully there will come a time when you can replace those things which you're missing - unless you're missing them as they were given to you by a special person or something? I'm terrible and have really strong emotional attachments to things, 2 years ago I had to sell things which I had kept for years and were very special to me, but now I'm thankful that I did as it got us out of a muddle! I wouldn't replace them now, mostly as it wouldn't be 'the same' but also as I don't want to look back, so it's almost my chance to start a fresh x With ebay I've started to list things at the min. I would be happy to get for an item - but things don't always sell.. Hope things improve for you xxAugust: £149/£150
Sept: £200

I have had to ditch some stuff for space rather than money reasons. At least if someone buys it on ebay then someone else will like it and get pleasure from it; it's better than just throwing something away because I have no room for it.
I wish I could keep all my 'treasures' but I can't.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Awww, just sending you a hug. I am struggling to get out of debt and there are times when I feel quite positive and times when I absolutely hate it. All you can think is one day I will be out of this mess and able to replace the things I sold.
I just feel bad selling clothes I bought on my Next Directory and have never really worn. Hardly worn jeans that cost £30 and goodness knows how much interest have sold for less than a fiver. Hard lesson learned I guess.
Good luck, hope things pick up for you.0 -
It's an awful feeling. Our family moved to Spain a few years ago, we invested whatever money we had into a business venture and were very sadly let down by some people we trusted. In the end we had just enough money to get to my mum's home and start over. Enough money to book Ryan air tickets, but not enough to ship our worldly goods. My kids were all home educated so we had 100's of books, craft materials, sports equipment, home furnishings, clothes etc. that we just had to leave behind. To ease the pain we had an open house, inviting some of the very kind friends and their families ,who'd been there for us when we hit bottom, to come over and choose what they would like. We boarded the plane with 1 suitcase each and started life all over. Some bitter tears were shed but a friend sent me one of those pinterest quotations that helped put things in perspective for me "You hate your life, someone, somewhere would gladly have your life."No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

really feeling for you. take it bit by bit. I am quite a hoarder and before I had to move up north yr and half ago i made lots and lots of piles and put scraps of paper saying go, definitely dont go and definitely maybe, looked at the sizes of each pile and tried to move stuff from one to the other when i felt in an ok mood (pick your days for this one).
There are other options than ebay, for instance instead of selling something treasured you could get a bit of cash per kilo of clothes (they do it by weight not whats in bag) or nip into citizens advice to check that you are getting all the grants/benefits/etc that you are entitled to. I found stuff like that more heartening than chipping away getting a fiver for this and that: its never enough to cover the next emergency is it.
Maybe wrap up and hide a treasured item at back of wardrobe and you'll find it later down the line and it will hearten you that you didn't have to give up EVERYTHING.
Best of luck to you.0 -
Hi
Maybe take some nice digital pics of your treasures, then when they are gone, you could arrange the pics in a scrapbook, or some kind of memory board?
I try to do this with the kids artwork (I use the term loosely, lol, they are 2 and 3) I can't possibly keep every piece. And the glitter is so annoyingBossymoo

It seems you are very down at the moment and struggling to make ends meet but on a positive note you are in a relationship. Try and support each other, love is far more important than possessions.0
