'DebtFree Haven' offering IVA Alternative

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had heard of a firm called 'DebtFree Haven'.

They wrote to me, implying that there are ways to write off my debt instantly (as if by magic!!!).

They seem like a bunch of charlatans out to nab IVA customers, pointing out some of the IVA downsides (none of which is news to the informed IVA customer).

Ultimately I guess they will promote bankruptcy as an alternative, and charge £1,000 for the privilege, or some such thing.

Anyone else heard of them? Anyone used them?

Out of interest, this is the letter they wrote me:

'We have noticed that you have recently entered in an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA).

Are you aware of all the government legislations and other solutions that can see you writing off your debts and put you back in control of your financial future?

Have you been told by your IVA not to seek advice from other companies and are wondering why?

Here are just a few points about IVAs- that you may or may not be aware of:
• The average fee for your IVA is roughly two years of your monthly payments and it's taken out from your contributions first. This company fee does not go towards your creditors.
• Did you know that most of your creditors will only receive their agreed amount once your IVA is completed which in most cases is in about 5 years time?
• If your circumstances change and you struggling with your monthly payments your IVA is likely to fail and you will still owe your creditors the full outstanding balance regardless of how many months' payments you have made previously
• Did you know that if you have any extra money come in at anytime you will have to pay over 50 of that amount into your IVA?

We believe in giving people back financial control of their lives and help put the past behind them. Millions of people are currently trying to resolve their financial difficulties but still feel trapped and are struggling on a monthly basis. Do you find that within the first few days of the month being out of money and wishing it was payday again? This New Year's look to a fresh, new start!

    Hi

I dont think I have heard of these, are they from Dorset way by any chance?
  • Lol!!!

(I assume that was a reference to Dorset being one of the wealthiest counties).

They do have a website, and appear to be just another Debt Managment Company.

    Letter is already pet-rabbit bedding.

I had a very similar letter about 6 months into my iva, I rang them out of curiosity and they reckoned they could put me on a dmp !!

Hung up and binned the letter !
trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)
  • Hi

    No, you assume wrong.

Its just that I think there has been a few bankruptcy assist outfits over the years down that way especially around the Poole area (nice little Greyhound track there also)

Just found their site, looks like this particular profit making debt advice company has a London address and a CCL would you believe.

These letters they are sending out, nothing illegal is there?

Just another form of calling, probably not to disimliar to the others including the texts etc, they are all only in it to make money out of people struggling in debt if you ask me.

Im afraid this type of thing is a symptom of the IVA industry and is nothing new.

No doubt they will pick up plenty of customers the way things are going with IVAs but like I have already said this type of outfit are not my cup of tea and my view is to steer well clear, there should be plenty of genuine free advice available for people who need it.

    My take

    Hi

Just to balance this thread up a little if that is the right phrase.

I saw someone yesterday who came in with a letter from an IVA company that lead with this line..

"I was sorry to learn from 'public records' that you have recently been declared bankrupt"

The rest was basically offering advice if the person was not sure of his options blah, blah, blah

The most ridicuous part about this whole episode is the person was a failed IVA case that went bankrupt before christmas and even more absurd in my opinion is that his IVA is still on the Insolvency Service Register next to his bankruptcy details.

So we have someone coming in to a free agency a little worried asking what this letter was all about, wasting their valuable time again.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that the person had paid thousands into the failed IVA mostly in fees and it was me that also did his bankruptcy for free as basically nobody else wanted to know.

After we explained what this letter was he thanked us again saying bankruptcy was the best thing he ever did as it has allowed him a genuine fresh start.

PS - there was once a petition I believe emgineered by another forum concerning the IS Service Public Register, it never got anywhere I understand, I cant for the life of me think why.

I suppose you have to laugh at some these IVA Companies

PS - Always take full advice before deciding on any debt solution

    My take of course

    Hi

    Just had a thought

To my knowledge charities such as the CAB, National Debtline & Stepchange dont send out these type of letters.

I wonder why some of these profit making companies do then?

    Strange, int it?
