Our local poundshop had the moisture traps - I bought one to test it out and think we'll buy a few more then get the big tubs of refills, as the poundshop ones do come apart so could be refilled. Cheaper than the ones Homebase sells, even if buying online.
Another tip I read is to use microfibre cloths to wipe the moisture off when it gathers - remember to hang the cloths outside, or at least in another room, or the water will evaporate back into the room again. Makes sense to give the windows a helping hand rather than waste money letting the traps do it (and much more slowly!)

I have wondered if the "rechargable" ones are better economy over time, e.g. the sort Lakeland sell that you put in the oven to dry out and reuse.
  • The moisture traps in wilkinsons are quite big a long box so don't need to buy alot seen the ones in pound shop quite small. They sell rechargable moisture traps in b&q.
  • This might seem like overkill if you already have double glazing, but you could try stopping the problem with another layer of glazing rather than mopping up the symptoms. We used to get a lot of condensation in the bedrooms but now we have temporary "double glazing" film attached on the inside and we don't get condensation any more. It's like cling film that you put on with double-sided tape to the window frame and then heat with a hairdryer so it shrinks to fit and become totally invisible. Works a treat and keeps our house a lot warmer too (poorly fitted single glazing so not well insulated at all). We got it in a hardware store.
  • We live in a double glazed rented house, all of the window sills are dry except in our room, it swims with water! Even more than in the bathroom. I'm wondering if the DG or windows could be faulty somehow, should we report it to the landlord? Excuse my lack of knowledge regarding condensation and double glazing, I grew up in a hot country!
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

I have bought moisture traps from poundshop, they are 2 for £1, the windows still have bit of condensation but sills are dry and you can see water in the bottom of the pot.
    Thoughts to all. Mrs D.

  • Could use plants they take moisture out and there easy to keep and doesn't cost alot of money.

I've tried moisture traps - they help but didn't solve the problem in our house. I ended up investing in the karcher window vac - removes the moisture completely so you can pour it down the sink. It has helped with keeping those rooms warm and keeping the mould at bay. When funds permit, we'll change the DG as that is the problem for us - the units are well and truly blown but there is nothing I can do about the condensation between the panes... except maybe keep fish in there :rotfl:

Thanks for your replies :) I went into Poundland this morning and they did have the moisture traps but the queue for the tills was about a mile long :rotfl: so I left it. We don't have a Wilkinsons nearby, unfortunately, but I might check out the moisture traps in B&Q when I next go. The ones in the pound shop didn't look that great quality, tbh, but perhaps they still work ok.
  • They sale moisture traps in robert dyas and lakeland and if you don't have them near you they have an online catalouge.
