Form A64

Does anyone know what this asks? I know it's connected to having a property.

I made a claim for JSA starting 30 December. I only wanted to claim contributions based but as I was transferring from ESA and forbidden from applying online, I had to claim by phone and the person on the other end would not take no for an answer and made me answer all the income based questions.

I own a property in London, let to tenants, which I'm pretty sure means I'm not eligible to income based benefits, hence not intending to claim them.

I chased my claim today as I hadn't heard and they sent me two texts: the first said I'd have money today; the second that info was missing and my claim could not be processed. I called them and was told I need to complete form A64, which has been posted to me today.

Grrr. Can they pay contributions based in the meantime or do they need to go through the whole rigmarole of proving I'm not entitled to income based benefits first? Would the first text be relating to JSA (c) and the second to JSA (ir)?

I have a slight concern over eligibility for JSA (c) too and the delay and irrelevant form filling is just stressing me out.

Thanks

It is possible that you are not entitled to contribution based JSA and therefore they are assessing you for income based. But also.......

You would have been assessed for contribution based JSA first (different pot of money) but they will also assess for income basedat the same time so that if you have an entitlement to income based too then you would get help with HB/Housing costs (after 13 weeks)/and other entitlements that income based benefits give.

Look at it this way, they are trying to make sure that you are getting your maximum entitlement :)

Edit: Sorry, forgot to answer original question. The form is to assess your capital and does indeed relate to your house that you rent out - so connected with your assessment for income based JSA.

Some incomes count for JSA-CB - and will reduce or eliminate your award.
I am unsure if rental income is one of these.

I believe the only income that is taken into account for contribution based JSA are private and occupational pensions where the total income is more than £50 per week.

Yep. My understanding too. Otherwise, they would ask about other income when you make a contributions only application and they don't. So cross that due to an administrative error in not allowing me to uncheck the income based box they are taking so long to process my claim. Obviously if by some miracle I'm entitled to income based, I'll be pleased, as lindyloo says, but I'm pretty sure I won't be.

No, my concern is whether I got my application in quickly enough for it to be based on the tax years for which I have sufficient NI contributions. I just want to know sooner rather than later.
