Advise regards efficiency

Hi all,

Just looked at our gas and elec account with British gas

We live in an old 3 bed detatched house with a v. Inefficient boiler by looking at my bill. ( we rent, not own).

We have the heating on (4 radiators, 2 large, 2 small) 3 hours a day at the moment.

As I work from home, I have clients coming to me, so when they are here I use a convection heater from lidl, that I set on 2300w mode. I do not have the central heating on during the day, just my comvection heater.

We pay the following:

Gas:
tier 1: 7.621 pench per kw/h
Tier 2: 4.249 pench per kw / h

Elec:
Tier 1:20.851 pence per kw/h
Tier 2: 12.644 pench per kw/h

My question is: would it be cheaper to keep the central. heating on low all day in my room only (will turn all other radiators off in house) where I see my clients (has a large radiator, approx the width of a 3 sweater sofa), or would I be best using the convection radiator?

Secondly, what is cheaper? Keeping hot water on all day or just turning on 2x per day ( morning and evening?)

It would certainly be cheaper to turn off all radiators apart from the office and it may be cheaper than the convector heater. I would say it would be and i think it would be more comfortable too.

Bit of a pain turning off all radiators and i think you would need a wireless thermostat because you would have to leave the radiator by the thermostat on too so it regulated. A wireless stat left in the office would work.

Oil filled radiators are a good choice as they radiate heat after they have turned off, much like the radiator. This and your heater would cost the same assuming they are the same kw rated, they just give different heat feel.

And it is cheaper to only heat the water when it is needed.
