Fitted wardrobes help

We have a very small bedroom and are wondering as to the best way to maximise storage.
Ideally we would like for one wall - 360cm long - to be entirely wardrobe/storage space.
Because of the lack of space the depth of the wardrobe would need to be just sufficient to hang clothes.
Can anyone help as to what the smallest depth would be feasible? We are looking for sliding doors.
Is there any way to limit the size of the fitted wardrobe by using the actual walls rather than building a frame at the outers sides/back?
As you can no doubt tell we are hopeless at DIY
Have been looking at Sharps etc but wondering whether is would be better to find a handy man to fit them.
Any help or pointers would be most welcome.
The room is only 290cm by 360cm.

Sliding doors are the simplist way to do wardrobes, just fit a top and bottom track and hook on the doors
Best search for the cheapest doors that you like and either buy them yourself or let the handyman buy and fit them for you
Will need some sort of infill to the height and then shelving/storage fitting inside. This can be something simple like white plas boarding with hanging rails.
The minimum internal depth is around 450mm but would be better at around 500/530mm if possible. If you can fit the hanging rail front to back, then you can go even smaller.
Check out some prices for the doors and then have a word with either a joiner or handyman for ideas and prices to install
Have just fitted some to my daughters house, bought from Selco,
2 mirror doors plus tracks just under £100 + vat0 -
A family member is having fitted wardrobes in 2 rooms and called out 4 national firms including Sharps who were the most expensive. Each one had different ideas and gave their opinion and a plan. None of them were pushy and left them to decide and call them back.
They rejigged to meet their requirement and asked for a requote. Finally they went with a local made to measure company based in Hayes near London. Their prices were very competitive and they checked out their work at a couple of houses and rang others.0 -

Thank you so much for your post - exactly the kind of information I needed.
Having the hanging rail front to back hadn't even occurred to me!
This is an excellent idea as we should have sufficient width for this not to be a problem.
Will definitely go the handyman route.
Many many thanks.0
