My brother bought a pc a about 6 months ago although his PC never came with a DVD writer. He would like one so he can make holiday vids etc on to cd and for songs etc to go on cd.
He would prefer to buy from the shops instore(worries about secutity) but at a push for a bargain i could get him to shop over the net.
He isnt to worried about it being internal (someone could fit it for him) or external. Now it comes down to speed. He doesnt need one thats so fast its done in seconds, yet he doesnt want the slowest on the market. So is he looking for a 32x or 16x? What factors affect the speed at which a dvd is burned? What speed of dvd rw discs can you buy? I say dvd rw because he would simply use the same discs over and over.
He does have a budget of £70 in mind.
Any hints or suggestions would be very much welcome.

I bought my LG DVD re-writer from ebuyer.com over 2 years ago and that cost me £25! It reads and writes +R -R +RW -RW etc at 16x speed which I find burns a DVD in about 5 minutes. I think with a £70 budget you could buy the best DVD burner on the planet!Don't pay off your student loan quicker than you have to.0

Even at PC World you can get an internal drive for less than £30 or an external for £50.Charlie0

I would suggest either a Pioneer or an NEC. They are compatible with many types of media and only cost around £20 online or £30-40 in the shops.
https://www.svp.co.uk are good for the drives and the media0 -
