blind for serving hatch?

we have a hatch between our kitchen and living room and have just removed the awful sliding glass panels. Joiner said this morning that he doesn't recommend doors on it so we are considering a blind for the odd occasion that we want to close it off. I thought a wooden blind might be nice as it would look OK from both sides, but the pull cord would only be one one side. Whereas a roller blind would have the cord on both sides but would be blank on the underside.
