checked baggage insurance

Hi folks,
Wonder if you can provide any info for me.

I'm currently in NZ visiting family (have been since Oct). While here, I bought myself an Apple computer monitor which I've become quite fond of and would like to take back to the UK.

I thought my travel insurance policy would cover any damage to the monitor during transit but appears they won't pay anything more than £150.

Personal Possessions: While this policy provides cover for Your
Personal Luggage, if You are planning to take expensive items
such as sophisticated photographic equipment, jewellery and
other Valuables with You then You should check that You have
adequate personal possessions cover, under a home contents
insurance. The maximum We will pay under this policy for
Valuables owned by all Insured Persons is limited to £150 in total
for Economy and Standard, £200 in total for Premier policies or
£300 in total for Premier Plus policies (or £75 in total if the Insured
Person is aged under 18). Personal Luggage claims are paid based
on the value of the goods at the time that they are lost and not on
a ‘new for old basis’ or replacement cost basis; thus a deduction
is made for wear, tear, and depreciation. Payment of any claims in
respect of any one article or Pair or Set of articles will be limited to
£50 unless satisfactory proof of ownership is submitted. Evidence
of replacement value is not sufficient.

I checked with my home insurance provider and they only cover items that are on my person and not in the hold of the aircraft.

Do you know of anyone who would insure the monitor while in the aircraft hold?

How big is the monitor can you not carry it on? The airline could loose it or damage it easily hence why you shouldn't put valuables in the hold.

The only other thing I can think of is pay to ship it back by something like DHL who I'm sure you can pay to insure parcels up to certain amounts.

27" monitor, we'll already have maxed out our hand luggage allowance.

I know it could be lost or damaged, that's the reason I want it insured :-)

I would send it through a courier service I think it will be easier to find with the insurance you want.

I can't see why anyone would offer a high payout on hold luggage as the chances are so high. And if you find one it may well be the same price as a courier service anyway.
