Hi there

Does anyone know how much DLA is reduced by when someone is in hospital for a long period of time, and does it kick in after 28 days?

Do they stop it altogether for a period, or just reduce it. The person concerned is on middle rate for care, and low for mobility (if that makes any difference).

Should ESA also be informed of a hospital stay over 28 days?

Thanks for looking.

  • DLA stops after 28 days, but I believe it resumes when you are discharged from hospital.

ESA continues to be paid for up to 52 weeks in hospital. More importantly, any time you are an in-patient in hospital, you are automatically treated as having Limited Capability for Work.

You should always inform the ESA and DLA departments of hospital admissions, however short.
