self employed question regarding petrol and electric

Proving how much petrol you put in the car doesn't prove how many miles you drove on business rather than personal, so that's what you record: business mileage.
It's worth keeping a little book in the car and getting into the habit of writing EVERY journey down, IMO. If you have that habit, you won't be trying to reconstruct it later (although google maps is useful!)Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
ok thank you for your help and guidance, i am so new to this !
i thought i would of needed to keep the petrol receipts as i would be claiming back 45p mileage for business use and they may of wanted some proof or something.
thank you again.
Keep petrol receipts by all means but more important than that is to take a note of all business journeys including date, client name, destination and mileage for each journey. That is the proof that you would need if you are claiming on a mileage basis. If it is queried you have all the information for them to to make checks.0
