Musty smelling living room

Hi All
Last year, around March time, we used a Rug Doctor to clean the living room floor. Apart from taking ages to dry, it has now made my living room smell like an old sock lol. I've used shake and vac but that just masks the smells temporarily.
Does anybody have any advice as to how I can sort this out. The carpet is not a wool one it is synthetic and it has an underlay.
Thanks in advance

We had a similar issue because we washed when it wasn't very warm so took ages to dry. But the smell did go after a week or so, I sprinkled a lot of bicarb over it before bed and hoovered in the morning as well - much more effective than shake n vac.
I put it down to the underlay not drying very quickly because it is on concrete.0 -
Lobsta is right.
This short guide tells you how to use the baking soda. Worked great for us
We also used the alterntive suggestion they give and filled it with herbs etc. too and it smelt lovely!

Thanks guys, but I did do this a year ago, it's not damp now obviously, so will treating it with bicarbonate of soda help now?0

It's odd that it's still smelling now if it's perfectly dry - are you positive there is no other cause?0
-
Nope, it's definitely since I've used the rug doctor. The carpet is relatively new and also the underlay.0

The bicarb certainly won't do any harm, if it is still smelling one year on i doubt it is from cleaning the carpet, there must be another underlying cause.0

I think it's the underlay0
