    They can't. However, most banks will not charge when the customer states that the cheque has been lost.

    It could have been lost by any party - it doesn't matter. But lost cheque = no charge to cancel.

    no, there are many reasons why it's a good idea (and good management of funds) to pay cheques in quickly, but I'm sure your way is best for you....
