We saw one we liked in DFS or somewhere but we reckoned it was overpriced. We ended up buying two direct from the manufacturer who makes them for DFS. We paid half the sticker price in DFS which gives you some idea of the mark up. We also bought several yards of matching fabric to cover the pouffe to match.

That was about four years ago, No complaints so far.

The firm was based in Telford or nearby, if I remember correctly.
  • How much is it and what is it made from?

Plenty of places still hand make furniture in small stores up north (ebay sellers worth a look for this). Factory outlet places worth a look for M&S and John Lewis stuff (there is a huge palce somewhere near Mabchester area I think that is mentioned on here a few times). places like Sofasofa offer british handmadde stuff and in sales especially offer exceptional value it seems.

We have ours on order from M&S and got ours in sales with 30% off so good price for two sofas of reasonable quality

I might risk it for an occassional sofa and if it wasn't a lot of money but i would set expectations accordingly for comfort, durability and likely matching to original spec in "showroom"

    Don't do it!!

I've always tried sofas first. I've been to shops, seen nice ones on their websites beforehand then found them uncomfortable.

I might possibly consider it for a sofa for a spare room that's not going to be used much, if it meant getting a really good deal, but I would never do it for a lounge sofa that I'm going to spend a couple of hours a day plus sitting on.

£1200 for a 3-seater plus chaise at one end (so a corner sofa), nice leather on 'touching' parts and bonded leather on back etc. Price seems reasonable i.e. much cheaper than something similar from a big designer firm, but understandably so if they have only a small showroom in UK and very cheap labour costs in Far East.

Ok will check out SofaSofa. To be honest I don't think there appear to be that many sofa places reviewed well on the web, as consumers maybe we're all missing a trick! :)
  • Buy a good quality second hand one off Ebay ... fraction of the price and it's with you within a few days. I now buy all my furniture (and almost everything else) off ebay ... "Laura Ashley for the price of Argos"!!!

I would almost always never buy a sofa on line.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
