Cat in heat for the first time

I had my suspicions for the last week or so but last night confirmed it as I was watching tv I heard the most horrendous howl come from her!
She's desperate to get outside, scrabbling at the door, meowing running around all scattily!
She's 6 1/2 months old and I thought I would have at least another month to finish saving up to get her spayed,
Does anyone have any advice, and now how long do I need to wait to get the deed done?i def don't want her pregnant as she's quite small and the whole thing would b v scarey!!

Call the vet and they'll probably book her in for next week.
And close all windows and operate a 'you hold her until I'm out and the door is shut/I want to come back in, have you got the cat' system.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Ah thanks.
She so desperate to get out she has even learnt how to open the window!
Can they still operate if she's in heat?ADVISE-"I advise you get help"

Some prefer not to, because the whole area is rich with blood, so there's a slightly elevated risk to the operation during that time - but the first one tends to last for about 5 - 7 days, so she should be quietening down by then. But if she's still in heat on the day before, phone them (as it can last 14 days) and I'm sure they'll confirm whether they want to wait another few days or not.
Get it done straight away and you won't be faced with the misery of a cat who is on heat pretty much permanently - ie, on for a week, quiet for two days, back on for a week, off for a day, on for a fortnight - it's an awful existence for cat and you - and then you get the likelihood of negative behaviours such as spraying (cats in oestrus can do that - and it stinks) or the obvious, she gets out and you have to get her spayed whilst pregnant or deal with a whole bunch of kittens and then risk missing her first heat again.
And they are so lovely after the operation - if they've been stuck on heat for long enough, they are so worn out, they just want to sleep, eat and fuss you afterwards.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll
