So, is this a good deal for a Used car...?
Been looking to buy a new / nearly new Toyota Avensis. Looking at online car brokers, can get a 1.8 VVTi "Colour Collections" for around 12,700.
Went to a Toyota dealer yesterday who are selling the same car, but 56 plate, registered Nov06. It's an ex-demonstrator, 600 miles on clock.
They are asking for 12K, and agreed to knock 200 quid off, but wouldn't go any lower. I'm sure they could do better, but I just wondered what other MSEs think - do you think that's a good deal?
I also asked about PartEx for my 1999 V Focus 2.0 Ghia 100K mls. They offered £1600 which seems a bit on the low side.
Any thoughts?

Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

Sell your Focus privately. Put it in the paper for £2250 and you will have lots of interest. Focus' are very sought after at the right price.
Go to the dealer as a cash buyer and offer £11000 for the Avensis, but be prepared to up to £11500, at that price make sure you get the first service thrown in for free (when it is due), full tank of petrol and mats.0 -
Ditto that, dealers tend to offer around 40-60% of the market value for your part-ex. Sell it privately.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Just had a call off the dealer...
I offered 11K but he turned it down flat. I then offered 11.5K and he has accepted that!
He's asked me to go down tonight and pay a deposit, but he shall have to wait till tomorrow.
I think I shall sell my Focus privately, I reckon I would get an extra £500 for it.
Thanks for the advice.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -

Spot on, well done. :T0 -
Well, went down to the dealer today after work, to show the missus, and to put a deposit on.
Got there around 5pm (as arranged) only to find that one of the staff had taken the car home!!! The missus was absolutely livid, quite reasonably too, since we'd been stuck in traffic jams for 40 mins, and they were aware we wanted to see it. Seems like it was a breakdown in communication, whatever, we didn't hang around to discuss, just stormed off.
As we've now calmed down, we're wondering whether we should try and get some sort of "gesture" off the dealer by way of an apology. Should we tell them to give us some sort of sweetener, under threat of cancelling the deal, and if so, what should we ask for?
No doubt they'll call tomorrow offering profuse apologies...Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
Ask them to give you the first service for free, or at the very least to have a full tank of petrol when you pick it up.0
