Thanks for the replies. I got AA to come round and have a look and the guy confirmed that the linkage is broken and recommended that I go to a garage to get it fixed (he recommended his friend's garage). Is it best to go to a garage or an official vauxhall repairer? Are these things expensive to fix?

Doesn't need a main dealer to repair.

Cost will depend on parts needed.

The quote I'm getting from garages are in the region of £120-130. Seems very expensive. Maybe I should buy the linkage myself first? Is this the kind of thing I need?

    Depends on what is broken.

If you are able, then diy. Otherwise the quotes sound reasonable bearing in mind the labour cost,

Depends on how easy it is to take apart and put back together.

You have a price of £30 there from e-fence but don't forget there will be a higher charge from the garage as they'll be adding VAT to it and maybe some mark-up etc.

You then have at least an hour labour and VAT so lets say £50 in total for the bits, £50 for an hour labour and 20% VAT and there is your £120 total.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
  • Done this myself, well mine was when left over snow fell from my roof onto the windscreen when braking (thought I had cleared enough). Without thinking, I flicked my wipers on, they struggled and then wouldn't work on the intermittent setting parking all over the place (common problem with Astra's and Corsas at the time)

New wiper motor from the scrap yard for £30 and I fitted it myself using instructions from the Internet, took me about 40 minutes, but it wasn't that difficult, normally checking the oil is the limit of my abilities!

Thanks. I might attempt replacing it myself. Just to make sure is this the kind of thing I'm after:

Also, double check if the ones for a Suzuki Wagon R aren't cheaper. It's the same car.

there will be a ball or similar that fits into the black grommet/socket things at the end of those rods, likely the ball has just popped out and can be popped back in with no need for parts.

Have a very good look first - and I'd recommend borrowing/buying a Haynes manual. Sometimes the linkage is tucked away under plastic covers that are fixed in with silly plastic push fit fittings. It might be £130 as there's a lot to take off / move just to get to the linkage.

In fact, if it's anything like this -

Then would be about right. Note the special tool and the fasteners. If they're plastic, have new ones available as they will break.
