ESA questions.

Hey there

I'm currently 22 and living in the UK with my mum and on ESA for mental health reasons. My partner lives in the US and we plan to marry and for him to come here and live with me and my mum for the first year before we get our own place. He will be looking to get a job when he gets here.

I get income-based ESA, will his living with my mum and I effect my ESA? Also, my mum receives job seekers allowance and housing benefit, etc., currently, will his wages affect her benefits also?

Am I right in understanding a spouse's wages doesn't affect DLA benefit?

Thanks :)

His wages when he gets a job would be taken into account when determining your entitlement to ESA. Your DLA wouldn't be affected.

I think that he would be expected to contribute towards the housing costs and housing benefit could well be affected.
