My own experience is that you have to try them because what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

I didn't find eye drops worked for me (in fact I was allergic), but I found that tablets did.

I take ceterizine and they are much cheaper buying generic versions either form a pharamcy from wilkinsons or you can get good deals from

    https://www.chemist-4-u.com

(I have no connection but they have some good deal on tables).

Wash your face regularly in the day. Don't rub your eyes. Wear glasses/sunglasses when outdoors for extra protection. Don't put bedding on the washing line. If bedroom window has been open, damp dust the room before bed.

As to eye drops, sorry I don't know as I usually manage to cope by doing the above and on very bad days, take a tablet.

I buy a homoeopathic tablet called 'New Era' from Boots. They are brilliant and have worked for my son for years. I have told loads of my friends about them and all have tried and use them. There are 450 tablets in the bottle and I think from memory they are £5 ish. Let me know if you get them.

I tried some homeopathic tables and they didn't do anything.
I tried neti (irrigating the nostrils) with a funy shaped pot.
I also tried a natural powder last year that is meant to form a barrier.

Personally I found that good old fashioned medication worked for me (flixonase nasal spray and tablets).

I am therefore firmly of the opinion that different things work for differnt people.

Oh and scientifically homeopathy is very ahrd to believe (although I don't doubt that some people see good results).

hi sorry maybe should have given a bit more information, i'm a seasoned hayfever sufferer, (26th year of it )

each year it affects in different ways, some years throat others noses this year seems as if its going to be an eye year, already been taking the tablets for 6 weeks to build it up before it starts, have the nasal sprays ready but wasnt ready for the eyes to start itching, (usually end up with conjuctivitis  )
was just wondering what over the counter drops were available and peoples responses to them before i go pestering the doctor again

very sound advice bettiepage for anyone just starting out but already knew that lot thanks

marbella, will certainly hunt them out and give them a go, cheers

I regularly get hayfever too and have found my eyes to be really itchy this year - the regular eye drops didn't seem to work - I take citrizine as well. I spoke to my pharmacist and the strongest eye drops you can get over the counter are Alomide. Try them and see if they work. If not then go see your doctor like I did - he's just given me a prescription for Optilast. So lets see fingers crossed they work!

I find that Sodium Cromoglycate eye drops do the trick for me, this sort of thing:

Optrex have their own version, and also there's a Boots own brand.

    Hi,

I've just suffered for the last week with what I thought was conjunctivitis. Tried fucilith.... (whatever!) and Optrex Infected eyes with no joy whatsoever. Then went back to the pharmacist who gave me a bottle of "Opticrom" eye drops (for Hayfever/allergy) which reduced the itchiness within a couple of hours and my eyes are now looking much better! Never suffered with hayfever before...

    Good luck

Stompa beat me to it, I also have sodium cromoglicate, eye drops and inhaler.

    I'm getting the opposite this time ... I can't stop sneezing! x
    Gone ... or have I?
