  • Our situations is myself, my disabled husband and 5 year old daughter live in an house that is a 3 bedroom on the system but the council converted the 2 main bedrooms into 1 to accomodate the lift and my husbands wheelchair so we only have 2 bedrooms. They have said we have a spare bedroom, I have phoned them and they said today the only way round this is for them to reclassify house to a 2 bedroom and they're not willing to do that. They've said theres nothing else we can do and will have to pay the difference

sounds totally unreasonable to me. is it a registered social landlord saying they won't reclassify or some government dept.?

you can go to your local councillor and you can go to the social work dept. (duty worker) who presumably did the conversion of the bedrooms and ask them to help you sort it.
  • Hi all, I keep meaning to give an update on my mothers situation. Well it all turned out great for her in the end.

She managed to downsize to a lovely 1 bed groundfloor maisonette. And moved to a much better area too. All of the worry ended up with a happy ending.

To be honest, she was stuck in a rut where she was and her depression was not getting better. Since moving, she has got a job and living a life that she never dreamt would be possible. She probably would not even be able to afford the rent on her old property.

So anyway...her suggestion is to not be afraid to move and downsize. It was the making of her.
  • Thanks so much for letting us know and I'm glad it worked out well for your mum :)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
