most reliable suzuki sx4 vs toyota yaris verso?
Hi on my quest of looking for a suitable cheap tall big boot car, i'm thinking between a suzuki sx4 vs toyota yaris verso.
the yaris a £2000 for a 2002 model done about 80000 and the sx4 is about £4000 for a 2007 model done about 40000 miles,
Both have timing chains, but which car will last me the longest and give me the least amount of trouble in say over 10 years, be the cheapest to own, reliable and rust free?
Give me your words of wisdom:)

I would be surprised if a ten year old Yaris would last another ten without rust, though both should prove mechanically fairly bulletproof as long as they are properly maintained.
If you can spare the extra I would probably go for the Suzi even though the Yaris is more of a quality product.0 -
I bought a 2002 Yaris Verso 3 years ago for £1500 . It still has only 63000 on the clock so yours is over priced.
I waxoiled mine underneath after steam cleaning and it has no rust. I am looking to run it for another 5 years at least.
IMHO a great little run about and a Tardis with the seats folded under the floor.
Haggle like hell on the Yaris and do what I did !0 -
thanks. These are approximate prices and milages i'm seeing, as i'm still shopping.
Would prefer a toyota newer than 2003 as this is apparently when they fixed the oil burning issues.0 -
Your morning coffee loses more steam in 10 minutes than my Yaris uses oil between changes .0

The SX4 only has a big boot if you fold down the back seats, otherwise its tiny. The Yaris is far cheaper to run, my SX4 (4grip) got about 42mpg in summer if I was careful, have not had a Verso but an older Yaris I had got over 50mpg.
Mind you I cried when I had to sell the SX4, it was such a fun car. Its catalytical converter had gone and there were no after market parts so it would have cost £2000 to fix via Suzuki. You should check if this is still the case as although I loved it I wouldn't buy another if I had to get all repairs done through the dealership.
Traded it in very quickly for a 1.6 Nissan Note which has a very large boot, is very tall, reliable and I get 50mpg in the summer when being careful. Its much more powerful than either the Yaris or the SX4 too.0 -
Do you want/need the 4 wheel drive capacity of the Suzuki? What about a Daihatsu Terios?0
-
Not all SX4s have 4 wheel drive and the ones that do you wouldn't get for what the OP has found. I had mine for nearly 3 years and it appreciated, bought it for £7000, 2007 model with 25,000 miles on clock, 2 years later I could have traded in to a dealer for the same. Then it broke  Its 4 wheel drive capabilities were very good but there aren't so many 4grip versions about so the prices stay relatively high.0

thanks sgun. Browsing found that quite a few people got caught out on the SX4 cat, so think that one is doing to the bottom of the list.
Note does sound interesting, but not sure it is tall enough, or if i'm flexible enough to crawl into it. Think I will have to go around to a car lot and see.
The kia Soul, looks a bit odd but seems ok, but too new and expensive for the few miles I do a year.
Definitely not after a 4 wheel drive. Access, rustfree and reliability are at the top of my list. On gumtree the 4grip range from £2200 to £37000 -
The Note is actually very roomy inside and has a high driving position, not as high as the SX4 but def as high as the Yaris. Waiting to see if the foot and a bit of snow I had to drive through today has done any damage, if not it'll be my most reliable car since I had an Almera 12 years ago. I do know people who have had SX4's for years with no problems, for me it is the cost of parts and the relatively poor fuel consumption that puts me off again.0
