Wrong mileage on MOT Certification

Hi,

Just a quick message to see if there are any solutions to this problem. Have a Honda Civic Hybrid 2007 model and it's come to point where the car now needs to be sold. The problem is that having the MOT done last August 2012 the mileage on the certificate is completely incorrect. The certificate reads as 33,000 but the car has done approximately 72,000 miles. The MOT carried out on the previous year has the right mileage.

I took the car to webuyanycar.com purely because I could get a quick sale. Unfortunately the car's initial value online was £4765 but having been inspected by webuyanycar.com the valuation came to about £1500 because of the discrepancy.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Many Thanks.

RD

What mileage was used on the quote ? WBAC without fail never give what the initial quote is anyway, they always find something wrong with the car to reduce the value.

I believe this thread is relevant to me too.

I bought a car last March with 55k on the clock. I presented it for an MOT on Saturday and discovered the previous MOT was 62k, 2 months before I bought the car. My initial thoughts were clocking but it appears that the garage that did the MOT (a main dealer) used the job number as the mileage instead of the actual mileage. The car was serviced on the same day at 54k but the cynic in me tells me this is not right.

As that MOT has been superseded I cannot haves that certificate modified so now my car appears to have covered 1900 miles in one year. The company I purchased the car from don't believe this to be an issue and that I will not have a problem selling the car but I would not want to buy a car that did not tally by 8k so I think I deserve a refund.

The car is on finance and I paid a deposit by credit card. The garage also had a mileage check done through VOSA before I purchased the car so technically I should have been informed of the discrepancy should I not?

Either way I'm no longer happy with my car and am refusing to drive it as I have a small element of doubt that it may have been tampered with.

The mileage used on the quote 72,000 which is approximately correct.

Is it possible to have the car re-MOT'ed and obtain a new certificate?

    Thanks.

Yep, you can mot a car any time you like, but it won't affect the previous MOT history.

I'm pretty sure there is a mechanism in place for correcting mistakes on already issued certificates.

VOSA might be a good starting point

I'd imagine there's a procedure for a garage re-issuing an MOT in the case of a mistake being made without the need for a whole new test being done.

Perhaps give the garage a ring and explain the issue and ask them?
