When we had mice in the loft they ran down the wall cavities and above the ceiling of our lounge extension which had a flat roof. They made an awful racket and we were convinced it was either rats or squirrels! :eek:They never came into the house thank god! We did have a large infestation though - the council man had to come back 3 times! :rotfl:

One of my dogs scratches the carpet when she is settling down too. I think its just a comfort thing with my dog cause she goes round and round in circles too.:D

My dog does that too. Luckily just on his bed though :)
  • Sounds like he is stressed to me. Previously when you left the house was the window not open? So the door didn't rattle?

I think something has really unsettled him.

Can you try going out but leaving him in a different room? To see if he settles calmly or not. I wouldn't lurk and jump out saying no to him, I really think something has spooked him and you need to find the root of the problem to really deal with it or else it will manifest itself in other ways.

What do you put in the kong?

    I agree with this.
I have two dogs one of them is very laid back and the other is an obsessive highly strung carpet tunneller.

If we stop him digging on carpet he will sit chewing himself until he bleeds, bite his nails, walk in circles, or suck the other dogs tail.

Having tried everything (vets, toys, chews, 3 long walks a day, playtime, training, good diet, herbal stress remedies, DAP Diffuser etc) We moved both the dogs in to the kitchen and gave him his own carpet tile.
Although it is not ideal it is what he seems happiest with.

    Hi all,

We seemed to have solved the problem... I managed to find some thin board which fits under the doors and obstructs the carpet. We also left the radio on when we went out. I can tell he doesn't even bother now, as there are no scratch marks on the board at all.

We are moving into a new house in just over a week and I'm worried he will do the same. I don't think it's a general thing or surely he'd be scratching at other doorways too? I did wonder if he could hear something user the floorboards previously and the radio drowns it out now...?

Any tips or ideas would be appreciated!
