Hopefully this is ok to post here!
I'm raising money to attend the Europa Cup, an annual wheelchair rugby tournament, this April in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Wheelchair Rugby was one of the most popular sports at the London 2012 paralympic games with every match selling out. It's the only full contact paralympic sport which has been inspiring people of all ages for years. Better known abroad the sport is now growing quickly in the UK.
The players are all quadriplegics, many through traumatic events, meaning they have disabilities effecting all four limbs to varying degrees. Because of this many need a large amount of support both on and off court.
I have the opportunity to attend this tournament with one of the British teams - usually only one UK team gets to attend but this year two qualified. One of these was one of the London based teams; the second is the team I volunteer for, we are the oldest team in the UK but had sponsorship slashed.
I will be volunteering to provide personal care for players on and off court as well as mechanic/bench support during games. All players and volunteers are self-funding and the team can not afford to pay for the assistance (known as 'team escorts' in the rugby world) that they need to take with them to ensure that all players are given the proper support.
For this reason I am raising funds to be able to attend. If you believe you can donate to this cause please visit: http://gofundme.com/1vn1gc
Funds will be spent as follows:
£305 attendance costs to tournament (tournament fee, accomodation and transfers)
£100 flights plus cost of taking 1 bag
£30 uniform
£30 subsistence for 4 days
£35 care supplies/additional needs (e.g medical supplies/stock for bench based care)
If you would like further information a blog will be going live today and please feel free to message me with any questions.
