Hi all,
Very quick (hopefully) question, did a search but couldn't find the answer but apologies if I've missed it.
Got bought a gift for Xmas from Topman. Style didn't suit so I've taken it back. Had a gift receipt for the top.
The guy gladly gave me £15 on a gift card, happy with that as couldn't see anything I wanted at the time.
However realised when home it couldn't have been purchased for that. Had to call who bought it and it was £30 they spent on it. Seems the price in the till just have been the sale price
Was I entitled to the full value as I had the receipt? If so do you think going back with the receipts (which I've kept) will get me the balance?
Thanks all

As far as I was aware, a gift receipt should get you credit for the original amount that was paid. Lack of receipt would only get you the sale price.Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0

In answer to both questions, probably not.Was I entitled to the full value as I had the receipt? If so do you think going back with the receipts (which I've kept) will get me the balance?
This gift receipt arrangement is in addition to any statutory rights, and as such the retailer can impose any reasonable terms.
You need to find out this shop's terms attached to gift receipt refunds.
Whoever made the purchase may have a better chance of getting a full refund of the purchase price, especially if they have proof of purchase.0 -
If the gift receip stated an amount, then you should get the full amount as credit. If it didn't state the value, then the shop can only refund the sale amount.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
thanks for the quick posts all.
update - got a reply from topman which was very generic about returns but stated sale price would be offered where no receipt.
So went back and said from that I infer I can have full price. After pulling in floor manager she agreed and now have full price of top on a gift card.
Happy days.
Thanks again all.0 -

I was in M+S just after Christmas, a Lady was returning items with a gift receipt which didn't specify the amound and even though she knew what she was retuning had originally cost £30 and in the general shop it was on sale for £15, it had been bought in an Outlet shop where it was on sale for £1 so thats all they would offer.
Better service from New Look when I had changed my mind over a £24 dress. When the assistant scanned it for a refund it came up as on sale for £2.50 and we worked out that as it would look nice with a top over it I may as well have the refund and then rebuy for £2.50
