Will I get student loan/funding

I'm thinking of going back to uni and starting to look at courses and funding.
I did go to uni back in the early 90's, did part of a year of one course then changed to a different course at a different institution. I did 1.5 years of this and then had to leave for health reasons. I ended up paying back some of my grant at the time.
Do you think I will be accepted for student finance? I am currently out of work and our household income is low.

Firstly, what part of the country are you in/which finance body would you be applying to for funding?
Do you have any evidence related to your period of ill-health that you could provide to the student loan provider?£2013 in 2013 / £353.22 /£2013 so far

I'm in Scotland now but was in England. I don't have any evidence of the ill health but it would probably be on my medical records so I could probably ask for a copy of the notes relating to that.0

Yes, I see no reason why SAAS will not fund you fully.Come ride with me, through the veins of history...

You will need to check this!!
Usually you are entitled to 3 + 1 years of funding. And you may need to check the residency rules for Scotland. It is usually 3 years to be able to claim so you should check that you qualify and ask them about your previous funding too. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
In Scotland it would be 4 + 1 years funding I believe, 4 years for a standard Honours degree plus an extra year for re-taking a year.
As far as I'm aware, even if you do not qualify for free tuition because you have studied previously, you would still qualify for the student loan. SAAS may give you the tuition fee but may ask for it to be repaid since you have already had funding. If they do not provide you with this then given that you would still receive a student loan you could use this to pay for your tuition fee by monthly instalments to your uni.£2013 in 2013 / £353.22 /£2013 so far

The rule is the length of the course plus 1 year, so unless you can provide proof of your ill health and have that accepted as extenuating circumstance, you'll need to be able to self finance for the first year of your course, whether in Scotland or England.
As dizzyrascal suggested, you need to sort out first whether you come under English or Scottish residence rules.0 -
Hi, sorry not been on here for a while. I will come under England as I only moved to Scotland about 6 months ago. It's a 4 year course but the uni will provide a bursary equivalent to one year of course fees but spread over the 4 years. Best get onto the Docs for proof of illness I suppose!0
