New Honda CR-V 2007 Ipod Link

Options
Bit of a long shot but there may be somebody reading who can help me.

I'm swapping my car this year (company car so luckily I just pick one and somebody else pays) and MP3 is a must. I have the dension ICELink MP3 adapter in my current car at the moment and it's been superb.

I've decided on the new Honda CR-V but wondered if anybody out there has one and also bought the additional Ipod Adapter for the glove box?

The CR-V comes with an Auxilary Socket by default for generic MP3 but I'm not sure the extra Ipod Adapter is going to be worth the £225 they want for it.

What extra functionality am I going to get apart from charging the Ipod and possibly controlling via the steering wheel.

OK with the aux connector I would have to use the ipod to change tracks but I do that anyway with the Dension ICELink at the moment (the interaction with my current steering wheel stopped working a while ago) and I already have an ipod 12v charger if I ever need to use it.

I've read all sorts of horror reviews of the Honda Music Link from the USA, but I don't know if this is one of those or the next generation from Honda.

At the moment I'm leaning towards keeping my £200 and just using the Aux connector but if anybody can post their experiences that would be great.

dont bother with the dealership add-on,. its a ripp of local BMW get my mate to put all this ipod / TFT add-on in ppls cars and charge a arm and a leg to them when there thinking a BMW techie must of put/done the setup - yea right,.

my comment is based on BMW dealerships, but as u know all the dealerships run a ripp the customer off with out him knowing policy,

im pretty sure their is a cheaper way,. ummm is that £225 with install? (i dont think it is)

i am a techie so i would do it myself,. if ur not a techie then it maybe better to just pay up,

Thanks for the reply and yes the more I find out about it the more of a rip off it is. Apparently it has the most horrendous Text to Speech interface ever, it locks out the Ipod (like the BMW one does) and will take you around 20 mins just listening through the alphabet while you select an artist !! And get this, even when you do select an artist it will not display anything on your nice 9 inch SATNav screen other than Artist 10 Track 3 !! Utter garbage !!

Apparently (according to a Honda Civic Forum) it's that bad Honda have actually stopped selling it as an aftermarket item while a new one is made available for the 2008 range of cars.

It was £225 installed if you order it from the factory as an option, but I will stick with the Aux in that is also in the new CR-V as standard. OK it's not going to be as good a connection as the Ipod Dock but I will give it a go first. Failing that I can always get my beloved Dension ICE>Link as they do a Honda specific model.
