Elderly parents arguing about going out in the snow.

he likes to get out the house, shopping, chemist pickup and he goes to the library to use the Pc.
I can understand that. Lots of people feel a bit stir crazy if they can't get out (me included).
Are you able to help or are you too far away? If not then I think he'll just have to sit tight for a few days until pavements have cleared. It really isn't worth the risk.0 -
I haven't been out either. Cupboards well-stocked and it's horrible wet stuff here.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I'm not elderly and there's no way I'm going out in this weather because I don't need to go out.
I'm with your Mum, she's the sensible one and your Dad should listen to her.
It's not like the snow is going to be about for weeks on end.
Surely staying in a couple of days isn't going to hurt him.
On the other hand, falling flat on his back on ice will.

my parents, mum 72 dad 75
decided 2 years ago to go out, for a walk, because it was what they always did, it was a day like today, instead of staying in the warmth watching telly, and my mum fell, and broke both of her arms, she had both arms in plaster up to her elbows for 6 weeks.
They don't go out now in the snow or ice.0 -
im too far away.
He drives as well btw.:footie:0 -
I think it's a natural concern . He's 80 and it'd be serious if he had a broken bone . Mum's just worried about what might happen . My DH is only 61 and he has a tendency to slip and not just in the snow . I'm always saving him ! I'm with your mum , don't go out if you don't have to .0

I have to say, rightly or wrongly, as an adult I would listen to my OH advice, and then do exactly what i thought best!0

As others have said I wouldn't go out if I don't have to. I damaged my achilles tendon a couple of years ago after slipping and I am still having to do exercises. My friend's elderly mother slipped in the snow one year and broke her hip and was in and out of hospital for months and still needs treatment. You have to accept that elderly people are not necessarily going to heal as quickly as a young person.0

I broke my arm slipping on the cleared yard of my school.
Often it surface is worse after the deeper snow has been cleared, then it freezes again.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Just hope that your OH doesn't say - well, if you'd taken my advice you wouldn't have gone out and slipped and broken your arm, so you can manage without my help now! :rotfl:0
